XAFS Study of Arsenical Nickel Hydroxide
نویسندگان
چکیده
To Investigate the role played by nickel co-ions in contributing to the stability of arsenic, fluorescence XAFS measurements at both arsenic K-edge and nickel K-edge, respectively, on amorphous arsenical nickel hydroxide, crystalline arsenical nickel hydroxide, and annabergite reference compounds have been carried out. The XAFS results indicate that the arsenic-bearing nickel hydroxides have a well-defined arsenic local structure with multiple coordination shells, suggesting a compound formation mechanism instead of surface adsorption. The degradation of the arsenic local structure in the crystalline arsenical nickel hydroxide is observed. The XAFS of annabergites are compared to that of the arsenical nickel hydroxide and possible structural models are discussed.

Kinetics of Mixed Ni-Al Precipitate Formation on a Soil Clay Fraction
The kinetics of mixed Ni-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) precipitate formation on a soil clay fraction was monitored using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy. The kinetic behavior was monitored at pH 6.0, 6.8, and 7.5 in order to determine the effect of reaction pH on precipitate formation. XAFS analyses were performed on a Ni-reacted whole soil at pH 7.5 to determine the eff...
متن کاملMechanisms of Nickel Sorption on Pyrophyllite: Macroscopic and Microscopic Approaches
Retention of heavy metal ions on soil mineral surfaces is a crucial process for maintaining environmental quality. A thorough understanding of the sorption mechanisms of heavy metals on soil mineral surfaces is therefore of fundamental importance. This study examined Ni(Il) sorption mechanisms on pyrophyllite. The removal of Ni from solution was studied as a function of pH (pH = 5-8.5), initial...
متن کاملThe Link between Clay Mineral Weathering and the Formation of Ni Surface Precipitates
Spectroscopic and microscopic studies have shown that Ni and Co sorption by clay minerals may proceed via formation of surface precipitates, which may lead to a significant long-term stabilization of the metals within the soil profile. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) studies suggested the formation of several mineral phases with distinct solubilities. While turbostratic a-type metal hydr...
متن کاملStability of layered Ni hydroxide surface precipitates—A dissolution kinetics study
In recent years, studies have shown that sorption of metals onto natural materials results in the formation of new mineral-like precipitate phases. However, the stability of the precipitates and the potential long-term release of the metal back into the soil solution are poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the influence of residence time and dissolution agent on the release of nickel ...

The problem of impurities and defect states in lead telluride-based semiconductors is of crucial importance for their practical applications. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) techniques are capable to address some of the key issues regarding impurities position, their valent state, as well as the local structural changes of the host lattice in the immediate surrounding of the impurity ato...
